A-MAX Auto Insurance offers Texans affordable auto insurance with a package of primary coverages, which together makes up a standard auto insurance policy. Each of these auto insurance policies has its own separate premium. There are also other add-on auto insurance policies for additional premium costs. In addition to car insurance, we also offer motorcycle insurance, insurance for other vehicles like trailers and RVs, and Mexico tourist insurance.

DO NOT GET THIS INSURANCE! BEWARE! I got the General Insurance in Feb 2018 and paid $198/month. It was affordable and everything was great UNTIL I HAD AN ACCIDENT in November 2018. The adjuster was RUDE to everyone, including the Auto Body shop, refused to return calls and hung up on people. My claim was then transferred to a 2nd Adjuster mid-process and I NEVER received any calls at all from the 2nd guy. The only communication I got from him was via mail.

Complete scam – not only is the insurance complete junk (impossible to contact, slow response, claims denied) but they also sell your email address and phone number to a bunch of other scam artists. I bought a policy for my wife using my cell phone as the contact number. I get 6 to 10 calls a week on my cell asking for my wife. I have never used my wife’s name with that phone number – obviously, the calls originate from the [redacted] General.
Been with them for a year, online it says you can change your due date once for FREE. Yet every time I try and change it, they want to charge me. Then they tell me I have 15 days grace period which is a damn lie. I pay the night before the so called lapse is going to take place, and yet they still lapse me. EVERY SINGLE MONTH!!! I try to talk to a supervisor but the little employees make up all kinds of excuses not to let you talk to supervisors. This is the most irresponsible and unprofessional insurance agency I have dealt with in my 53 years of driving. Thank goodness, I havent had to have them do a claim for me that would probably never get taken care of. I highly recommend avoiding The General Car Insurance. I will be moving to Geico or Progressive.

6 weeks ago my vehicle was hit by a person being insured by The General Insurance company. To this day 6 weeks later I'm still waiting to hear from someone from the claims department to get back with me on my insurance check. The entire process has been extremely slow and drawn out. Very very disappointed in the amount of time that it takes to process a total loss claim. Several times I was told, "We will get back with you," in a certain amount of time and never hear from them. If I would have had to rent a car due to the loss of my vehicle I would have went broke by now! Definitely would not recommend them to anyone. I have the same exact type of accident happened 3 months ago and the insurer was insured by another company in which was taken care of from start to finish in 9 days. Big difference! For most people...I would say you are messing around with our livelihood!
Customers have also been quick to note that when they needed The General to come through, it either failed to do so or provided an insufficient and unsatisfactory resolution. For repairs, this means you may not get the amount you need — several people report sending over bills from repair shops only to receive compensation that was less than half the actual cost. Refunds for contested fees were also hard to come by, even if there was no history of driving violations or accidents.

This insurance company should be labeled “SCAM”. My daughter has full coverage but when she tried to file a claim last week she was told she would have to pay for the repairs on her car herself because she didn’t have the license number of the hit and run driver that struck her. Because she applied online she doesn’t have collision insurance or some such crap. My advice “STAY AWAY FROM THE GENERAL”.
I used to have Farmers insurance until I got in an accident. Even though I had a local insurance agent, because I had to file my claim after hours, I had to contact a generic claims call center. Then, since I initiated the claim using the 1-800 number, I had to complete the rest of the process that way. At that point I was asking myself why I was paying a premium to have a local agent when he was doing nothing to help me. After the whole experience, I decided to shop around and ended up choosing Progressive. They had much better prices and since it no longer mattered to me to have a local agent, I signed up. I've had nothing but a positive experience with Progressive so far.
I am not a high-risk driver but I live in Colorado and Colorado has some of the highest insurance rates in the nation. I’m a middle-aged woman and had precious insurance with Progressive and State Farm. The General premiums were half the cost of these 2 insurance companies. Recently I had to make 2 claims due to a hail storm. One vehicle was totaled and the other had over $5000 in damage. [Redacted] and [Redacted] professionalism was hands down the best! I filed my claim and the SAME DAY my 2 claims were dealt with. They made these claims painless and they were executed within and above my expectations timely manner. Most other insurance companies take months sometimes up to 7 months to have a conclusion on a hail damage claim. The General Insurance took 2 days. Thank you so much for the extremely speedy service!!!!!

USAA’s adjustor knew he messed up big time. He told me that & I said no I don’t agree & I’m not accepting that, so, I guess you need to finish this conversation with my lawyer. He promptly snarkily replied we can’t talk if you have a lawyer… I said I guess we can’t talk then here’s his number & hung up. I think he had enough time to Google my lawyer & he called me back to back 3x. The 3rd one I said you said we can’t talk so we’re not talking. You are finishing it with my lawyer… click. I’m done messing around @ this point. I hurt. I can’t get to my follow-up doctors appointments & they’re trying to screw me out of fair market value for my truck. Just no way.

The experience with The General has been ok. I do not feel extra special when I go there. It is like a number being pushed through and that is it. The insurance does what it needs to do, but there is nothing "wow" or I don’t get major perks. I would change, but the price is keeping me from switching for the time being. So the policy is ok, the pricing is good.
The General, under Permanent General Companies, Inc., is BBB accredited and has been since 2005. The website gives the company an A+ rating. There are a total of 176 complaints against the company in the past three years, with 64 of those complaints closed in the past 12 months. Those numbers are a little high, but not alarming for a company of this size. There are no government actions or other major problems listed.

I have had Insurance with The General since July 25 of 2018. My problems with them came over Thanksgiving weekend of this year. I made my premium payment on the website on a Saturday and later that evening I was on the website and I accidentally made another payment and there was no way to cancel it, and since it was a non business day I had to wait till Monday to contact them. I contacted them on Monday to explain what happened and asked them to cancel that additional payment and they informed me that they cannot cancel the payment and I have to go to my bank and stop the payment. I did just as they told me to do, however the next day both payments attempted to clear the bank. One was rejected cause of the stopped payment with the fee for that the payment that was supposed to clear did not so that payment was returned as well.

Switching to Amica from State Farm because I reviewed my State Farm policy and found that they are no longer paying to return my vehicle to "pre-loss" condition, and instead they are only paying for what is competative in the market area. I have been with State Farm for over 12 years, and recently read my policy booklet, and found this out. Based on the way State Farm's auto policies read I am very unhappy. State Farm gets to dictate what is competative in the market area, and because the majority of the shops in my area are not good shops, State Farm will not pay to have my vehicle repaired properly because it isn't competative in the market area as my policy reads. This also means that if I hit someone and they take their vehicle to a quality shop and State Farm does not pay for the cost to repair the other party's vehicle properly, then I can be sued by the person I hit. Being in the business for a very long time, I have found that most people are clueless about insurance, even most agents who sell them. I will agree that their rates are cheap. But I wouldn’t recommend them. Inexperienced adjusters. They do not fully investigate. The policy does not cover like, kind, and quality which is bad if you have a new vehicle.
