I got insurance through them however it said my credit card was declined. This was the 2nd attempt I had tried so I decided to stop trying and went with another broker. The General ended up charging my card and I called multiple times and a lady told me to email underwriting so I did. She said it took 1-2 working days. After 2 working days I called back and spoke with so many different people and they all said they'd get a manager to call me back AND NO ONE CALLED ME BACK. Finally had 1 manager KELVIN ** & he hung up on me!!!
No other insurance company would help me and one agent told me I was uninsurable. I didn't think I was going to be able to drive again until I called The General and they told me they would help me get back on the road. They quoted me a price and I've never had any of the Hidden fees other people are posting about. My policy is up and I'm about to renew. That's how I arrived at this site. If you need high risk liability insurance to get back on the road this company is excellent.
I LOVE USAA! I am surprised it’s not higher on that list. I had Allstate and they never fought for me or my family even though we were paying more than we are paying now. Over where we are at, the speed limit for the highway is 70. There was hardly anyone on the road so my husband drive on the far left since there is a lot of exits in the far right lane. This woman pulled out in the far left lane doing 20. My husband didn’t have time to break because she pulled out right in from God us with no turn signal. But Always was already assuming it was his fault even though they can review the car to see how fast he was going and who was in the wrong. I am glad we dropped them and moved to USAA. They are the best!
I love GEICO, they have EXCELLENT customer service! They are always great, they're always so personal, they are always there to help all day and night and weekends and you don't have to worry about someone being on vacation or sick because there's always more and great agents there to help. Plus they work with other outside companies and you can get discounts other places just for being with them. I just wanted to say I think GEICO is worth calling and getting a quote if you don't already have a policy.
Hi Stephen – I think you’re doing the right thing – as long as the premium continues to be reasonable compared to the competition. Even though we obsess on low rates, quality of service matters. It does little good if you get the cheapest policy, then they stick you when you have a claim. With must auto claims there’s going to be a human error factor (especially with new drivers), and you can’t be with companies that will hold that against you to such a degree that it seems like they no longer want your business.

Been with them for a year, online it says you can change your due date once for FREE. Yet every time I try and change it, they want to charge me. Then they tell me I have 15 days grace period which is a damn lie. I pay the night before the so called lapse is going to take place, and yet they still lapse me. EVERY SINGLE MONTH!!! I try to talk to a supervisor but the little employees make up all kinds of excuses not to let you talk to supervisors. This is the most irresponsible and unprofessional insurance agency I have dealt with in my 53 years of driving. Thank goodness, I havent had to have them do a claim for me that would probably never get taken care of. I highly recommend avoiding The General Car Insurance. I will be moving to Geico or Progressive.
It has been over a month since my accident. I had a woman back into my parked car with her car. We called the police, but since it was in a Dollar General parking lot it was considered private property. I got all the driver's info and took pictures. I filed my claim that night and they sent an insurance adjuster out who took pictures and even they said they saw the damage. Now it's been over a month and just yesterday they had some twerp call me to say that there wasn't enough evidence. What he meant was unless you want to go thru the trouble suing us we aren't paying for anything. I've never dealt with such freaking crooks/scam artists. I hope they all rot in hell.

It’s all fun and games and think you’re getting a good deal til you’re actually sitting on the side of the road with flat tire in 90 degrees heat, 7pm at night, late for someplace you’re supposed to be at, and this clown-[redacted[ bulls*** company after 40 minutes on hold tells you too bad… yes you purchased roadside assistance for towing coverage but it only covers you if you’re in an accident… not a flat tire. What?? Then gave me 3 different customer service numbers to call a 3rd party company if I wanted an exception. It was much quicker to just call a tow company any pay it out of pocket than spend 2 hours on the phone on side of the road stranded far from home and it’s getting dark. Worst company ever and guilty of fraud.
After 6 months of coverage they raised my rate from $742 to $1018. I received a bill saying had to pay $820.49 by December 28th 2019 to keep insurance till June 2019. I paid $820.49 on December 27th 2019. Found a better & cheaper policy on January 7th 2019. Called The General to cancel. The customer service rep stated I would get back $45. They charged me $775 for 10 days of insurance. The customer service rep stated NY state approves these practices.
DO NOT GET THIS INSURANCE! BEWARE! I got the General Insurance in Feb 2018 and paid $198/month. It was affordable and everything was great UNTIL I HAD AN ACCIDENT in November 2018. The adjuster was RUDE to everyone, including the Auto Body shop, refused to return calls and hung up on people. My claim was then transferred to a 2nd Adjuster mid-process and I NEVER received any calls at all from the 2nd guy. The only communication I got from him was via mail.

USAA’s adjustor knew he messed up big time. He told me that & I said no I don’t agree & I’m not accepting that, so, I guess you need to finish this conversation with my lawyer. He promptly snarkily replied we can’t talk if you have a lawyer… I said I guess we can’t talk then here’s his number & hung up. I think he had enough time to Google my lawyer & he called me back to back 3x. The 3rd one I said you said we can’t talk so we’re not talking. You are finishing it with my lawyer… click. I’m done messing around @ this point. I hurt. I can’t get to my follow-up doctors appointments & they’re trying to screw me out of fair market value for my truck. Just no way.
Do not, I repeat, do not get insurance from this company!! I got into a minor accident in stop and go traffic, going no more than 5 miles an hour, and their claims adjuster came out to the body shop and stated that my car was a total loss! Mind you, the damage to both vehicles was barely noticeable. I wanted to keep my car and fix it myself but now my back refuses to continue my contract because it will now show up as a salvaged vehicle. I even got an estimate from two other reputable body shops (one was caliber collision) for 1/3 of the cost, and they refused to allow me an appeal process. So now I'm out of a car that I still owe on, and have to come up with a down payment as pay back the balance of what I still owed. These people are straight mafia!!! And this is some kind of scam!!! Beware!

Matthew thanks for posting this. You’re absolutely right. USAA has gone down the tubes, I dont get it, a simple claim recently for auto, turned into a nightmare. bouncing my calls all over the country with a bunch of idiots for claim reps answering the phones, and forcing my car into total loss when it should not have been, and paying only a portion of the damage even though I have collision.
The General Insurance Co. advertises their customer service is rated highly…. WRONG – one of their insured vehicle was driven by a drunk driver… left the road way, crossed over on coming traffic, crashed into my parked car, taken to jail by sheriff’s, police report taken. They did nothing to track down their insured to get a report. They would do nothing without a statement from their insured…I personally had to go find their insured which was not hard… I drove to their home. I took with me a document and ask the insured to sign which stated she knew the insured vehicle was driven by her friend, and that she felt her insurance co should honor her policy. Then needless to say had to fight them tooth and nail to get them to pay the claim to replace my car as it was totaled.
This company is full of incompetent people. We called them to ask what we need to do to have our insurance renewed, their “worker” said that we don’t need to do anything that because we have automatical payment set up, everything will be done automatically. After two weeks we get notification from MVA to confirm our insurance and to find out that they insurance was not renewed even thought they said they will. When we called them again to ask for explanation all they said that they are sorry that they can not do anything for us. Long story short
