Switching to Amica from State Farm because I reviewed my State Farm policy and found that they are no longer paying to return my vehicle to "pre-loss" condition, and instead they are only paying for what is competative in the market area. I have been with State Farm for over 12 years, and recently read my policy booklet, and found this out. Based on the way State Farm's auto policies read I am very unhappy. State Farm gets to dictate what is competative in the market area, and because the majority of the shops in my area are not good shops, State Farm will not pay to have my vehicle repaired properly because it isn't competative in the market area as my policy reads. This also means that if I hit someone and they take their vehicle to a quality shop and State Farm does not pay for the cost to repair the other party's vehicle properly, then I can be sued by the person I hit. Been with them for a year, online it says you can change your due date once for FREE. Yet every time I try and change it, they want to charge me. Then they tell me I have 15 days grace period which is a damn lie. I pay the night before the so called lapse is going to take place, and yet they still lapse me. EVERY SINGLE MONTH!!! I try to talk to a supervisor but the little employees make up all kinds of excuses not to let you talk to supervisors. This is the most irresponsible and unprofessional insurance agency I have dealt with in my 53 years of driving. Thank goodness, I havent had to have them do a claim for me that would probably never get taken care of. I highly recommend avoiding The General Car Insurance. I will be moving to Geico or Progressive.
I LOVE USAA! I am surprised it’s not higher on that list. I had Allstate and they never fought for me or my family even though we were paying more than we are paying now. Over where we are at, the speed limit for the highway is 70. There was hardly anyone on the road so my husband drive on the far left since there is a lot of exits in the far right lane. This woman pulled out in the far left lane doing 20. My husband didn’t have time to break because she pulled out right in from God us with no turn signal. But Always was already assuming it was his fault even though they can review the car to see how fast he was going and who was in the wrong. I am glad we dropped them and moved to USAA. They are the best!

I am not a high-risk driver but I live in Colorado and Colorado has some of the highest insurance rates in the nation. I’m a middle-aged woman and had precious insurance with Progressive and State Farm. The General premiums were half the cost of these 2 insurance companies. Recently I had to make 2 claims due to a hail storm. One vehicle was totaled and the other had over $5000 in damage. [Redacted] and [Redacted] professionalism was hands down the best! I filed my claim and the SAME DAY my 2 claims were dealt with. They made these claims painless and they were executed within and above my expectations timely manner. Most other insurance companies take months sometimes up to 7 months to have a conclusion on a hail damage claim. The General Insurance took 2 days. Thank you so much for the extremely speedy service!!!!!
Do not get this coverage. They hide fees from you, make changes without your consent and will keep ALL of your money when you cancel. They have also falsified communications - no verbal contact with me occurred, yet in the system I spoke to their representative twice. I got a quote, paid the whole amount the same day. General increased the premium 3 weeks later saying they did receive the document they need. If this isn't a scam, I don't know what is!

They are the BEST out there! I have gone to different ones and had to come back to them because they are so honest, so friendly and so professional. They are not ripping you off with those 6 month policies and with a bunch of other fees. Do your research... Call around and you will be shocked at how many of those other companies are charging for their premiums (double what Liberty Mutual charges) and then once they get you the first year with somewhat low rates, they hike them back up the second year! Do your research and you will realize that Liberty Mutual is the best all around!

USAA has gone down the tubes, I dont get it, a simple claim recently for auto, turned into a nightmare. bouncing my calls all over the country with a bunch of idiots for claim reps answering the phones, and forcing my car into total loss when it should not have been, and paying only a portion of the damage even though I have collision.
USAA use to be a reputable company however in pass years their level in integrity customer service has declined tremendously. Lack of due diligence poor laziness. I am so ashamed for them. I have been a member for over 12 years no more. I am in the process of moving all my accounts and severing all ties. Yes it is that bad. It is time consuming but 200% necessary unfortunately. I will not share each negative and compromising act they did but I do not trust them. If you want your own horrible experience please join and find out.
The General is intended for drivers who may face steep rates from other insurers, but that doesn’t mean it will be able to provide those drivers with the protection they need. Few coverage options and a history of complicated claims resolution keeps us from recommending The General. Even if it offers lower rates than the competition, you might eventually get hit with unexpected fees that drive up the price of your coverage. If you can avoid it, you should — there are better insurance options out there.
I had insurance with The General since 7/12/2016: I switched to Allstate after purchasing a new vehicle and have gotten nothing but grief including them charging me 10% of my policy premium for early cancellation. I was rear-ended in September and The General did not fight for me on the claim side. Instead I kept receiving phone calls from Ashley the adjuster asking me if I was down receiving PT and she closed the claim. Mind you - my son has a kidney transplant 2 weeks after the accident so taking care of myself was not a number 1 priority but him. After cancelling my insurance they asked me for a letter of underwriting. Not too sure what this app is but have emailed them to find out and after 2+ years of being insured I moved and they also raised my insurance for my children who do not drive nor have license for living in my home. Horrible company. Purchaser BEWARE. THEY ARE NOT AND DO NOT FIGHT FOR YOU!

USAA’s adjustor knew he messed up big time. He told me that & I said no I don’t agree & I’m not accepting that, so, I guess you need to finish this conversation with my lawyer. He promptly snarkily replied we can’t talk if you have a lawyer… I said I guess we can’t talk then here’s his number & hung up. I think he had enough time to Google my lawyer & he called me back to back 3x. The 3rd one I said you said we can’t talk so we’re not talking. You are finishing it with my lawyer… click. I’m done messing around @ this point. I hurt. I can’t get to my follow-up doctors appointments & they’re trying to screw me out of fair market value for my truck. Just no way.
So I canceled my insurance on 9/14/2018, I paid $491 I canceled the same day after I made the payment because I found cheaper insurance. Within the same day of my cancelation, the General said they couldn’t give me my money back. When I called, the agent was very rude and said I wouldn’t get my money back and that I owed $28 to them still. They said that it was my balance after cancelation. What should I do and who should I contact to get my $491 back?

In 1997 the name The General came into use, although the company remains officially PGAC. The following year, American Family Insurance acquired The General, although they continue to operate as a separate company. The company is currently headquartered out of Nashville, Tennessee.

They look past the bottom line dollar signs and see me as an individual; a lot of insurance companies today can't seem to deliver that. I think it's obnoxious when a company becomes so big that they don't treat the customers as people anymore or when companies become so large that the employees become impersonal and arrogant. So far, I've not encountered this with 21st Century Insurance and that, my friends, leaves me a satisfied customer!
The General provides insurance for high-risk drivers. If you have a hard time finding coverage elsewhere, just being able to obtain insurance may be a big draw. But the cost of such insurance can be steep — and we don’t just mean premiums. Insufficient coverage means that you might end up paying extra for accidents that you’re involved in, not only to cover costs for expenses like medical bills or property damage, but also because The General may not pay out as much as you need for repairs or claims.
I have had Insurance with The General since July 25 of 2018. My problems with them came over Thanksgiving weekend of this year. I made my premium payment on the website on a Saturday and later that evening I was on the website and I accidentally made another payment and there was no way to cancel it, and since it was a non business day I had to wait till Monday to contact them. I contacted them on Monday to explain what happened and asked them to cancel that additional payment and they informed me that they cannot cancel the payment and I have to go to my bank and stop the payment. I did just as they told me to do, however the next day both payments attempted to clear the bank. One was rejected cause of the stopped payment with the fee for that the payment that was supposed to clear did not so that payment was returned as well.
This supplemental option provides protection for any custom parts you may have installed in your vehicle, like grilles, stereo systems, paint jobs, or spoilers. If you elect to purchase this coverage, The General will pay for the cost of replacing these parts after an accident (which aren’t usually included under a standard insurance policy). That said, The General does have a limit on custom equipment coverage: In California, the limit is $1,500, and in every other state, it’s $5,000.

No other insurance company would help me and one agent told me I was uninsurable. I didn't think I was going to be able to drive again until I called The General and they told me they would help me get back on the road. They quoted me a price and I've never had any of the Hidden fees other people are posting about. My policy is up and I'm about to renew. That's how I arrived at this site. If you need high risk liability insurance to get back on the road this company is excellent.
