I have been a GEICO customer for about least 15 years. Claims and customer service are not the issue with them. After said years of faithfully paying my insurance on time and renewing each year I accidently back into a car in my driveway. The cars were repaired without incident. However, GEICO penalized me by taking away my good driver discount and increase my monthly insurance rate by nearly $100.00 ; leving a hefty penalty for making a claim. I can’t imagine the money they made off of me during the 15 years I’ve faithfully paid auto insurance. I am hunting for a new auto insurance carrier since GEICO obviously thinks driving is perfect and accidents never happen.
Customers have also been quick to note that when they needed The General to come through, it either failed to do so or provided an insufficient and unsatisfactory resolution. For repairs, this means you may not get the amount you need — several people report sending over bills from repair shops only to receive compensation that was less than half the actual cost. Refunds for contested fees were also hard to come by, even if there was no history of driving violations or accidents.

USAA has gone down the tubes, I dont get it, a simple claim recently for auto, turned into a nightmare. bouncing my calls all over the country with a bunch of idiots for claim reps answering the phones, and forcing my car into total loss when it should not have been, and paying only a portion of the damage even though I have collision.
Had this company for years including coverage for my 21 Year son...not an easy feat to get reasonable prices, complete consideration by all employees and real people who meet all our needs when it really counts. Example..my son was in a total loss accident when hit (hit and run) on a busy freeway. He had minor physical injuries but Wawanesa came through providing everything we needed! We love Wawanesa.
Got home and auto several years ago. Lost house and vehicles due to a fire. They were awesome to deal with once the cause of the fire had been determined. Two million dollar claim was handled very professionally and with compassion. I went with Metlife because of the price. They were the cheapest when I had teen age drivers in the family. I will stay with them because of the way they treated me after the fire. You never know how good your insurance company is until you have a major claim.

The General is not worth considering for drivers without high-risk issues, as their rates are not intended to be competitive for the general market. With a less than informative website, it is difficult to obtain a clear picture of what their products or services are or really cover. It is also difficult to determine how competitive rates are, even for non-standard drivers. This is due to the fact that the quoting system provides no information regarding the coverage and limits being quoted.
USAA use to be a reputable company however in pass years their level in integrity customer service has declined tremendously. Lack of due diligence poor laziness. I am so ashamed for them. I have been a member for over 12 years no more. I am in the process of moving all my accounts and severing all ties. Yes it is that bad. It is time consuming but 200% necessary unfortunately. I will not share each negative and compromising act they did but I do not trust them. If you want your own horrible experience please join and find out.
I had insurance with The General since 7/12/2016: I switched to Allstate after purchasing a new vehicle and have gotten nothing but grief including them charging me 10% of my policy premium for early cancellation. I was rear-ended in September and The General did not fight for me on the claim side. Instead I kept receiving phone calls from Ashley the adjuster asking me if I was down receiving PT and she closed the claim. Mind you - my son has a kidney transplant 2 weeks after the accident so taking care of myself was not a number 1 priority but him. After cancelling my insurance they asked me for a letter of underwriting. Not too sure what this app is but have emailed them to find out and after 2+ years of being insured I moved and they also raised my insurance for my children who do not drive nor have license for living in my home. Horrible company. Purchaser BEWARE. THEY ARE NOT AND DO NOT FIGHT FOR YOU!

The General’s coverage options are, quite frankly, barebones protections. While there are some supplemental options like roadside assistance and rental reimbursement, don’t expect the luxury of accident forgiveness. And when you need to file a claim, you’ll have to do so over the phone — though it offers live chat and online policy management, The General doesn’t allow its customers to file claims without talking to a representative.
