So I canceled my insurance on 9/14/2018, I paid $491 I canceled the same day after I made the payment because I found cheaper insurance. Within the same day of my cancelation, the General said they couldn’t give me my money back. When I called, the agent was very rude and said I wouldn’t get my money back and that I owed $28 to them still. They said that it was my balance after cancelation. What should I do and who should I contact to get my $491 back?

In addition, while The General makes it easy to get a quote and streamlines the process of obtaining coverage, many drivers report a complicated claims process that often results in unsatisfactory payouts. This also holds true for repairs — customers have noted that The General often does its best to keep from paying for coverage it promised. If you’re at the end of the road when it comes to insurance options, The General may be able to provide you with a policy, but we wouldn’t recommend it for most drivers.
BTW regarding the wreck- do NOT talk to the other insurance company- the @ fault driver’s insurance company. You’re not required if you have a lawyer. Get a lawyer!! Call them from the hospital if you have to they’ll come to you @ the hospital if you call them there. They’ll even come out to your house. Please don’t let the insurance company screw you. You just want what’s fair & your property covered fairly.
Do not, I repeat, do not get this coverage. They hide fees from you, make changes without your consent and will keep ALL of your money when you cancel. I got a quote, paid the downpayment and 4 days later found better, cheaper coverage. Contacted the general as I still had required paperwork that needed to be submitted and was told I would get a full refund. I got $15 back out of my $296 payment. For 13 days of coverage (because that's when they finally canceled a policy.) If this isn't a scam, I dont know what is. My policy that I received never said anything in regards to fees to cancel but my original paperwork said short rate basis, which to them is a fee. AGAIN, my policy said nothing about a FEE in the cancellation section or anywhere else. They play on words and semantics. Customer service is rude and they talk over you. Shaq has put himself with a horrible company.

USAA’s adjustor knew he messed up big time. He told me that & I said no I don’t agree & I’m not accepting that, so, I guess you need to finish this conversation with my lawyer. He promptly snarkily replied we can’t talk if you have a lawyer… I said I guess we can’t talk then here’s his number & hung up. I think he had enough time to Google my lawyer & he called me back to back 3x. The 3rd one I said you said we can’t talk so we’re not talking. You are finishing it with my lawyer… click. I’m done messing around @ this point. I hurt. I can’t get to my follow-up doctors appointments & they’re trying to screw me out of fair market value for my truck. Just no way.
The General Auto Insurance Company writes auto insurance exclusively. Its auto insurance policy is known for accepting high risk drivers and may offer them more affordable rates than they would receive with a standard or preferred auto insurance carrier. On Dec.3, 2018 my husband was involved in a hit an run accident (driver never caught) and we are insured by The General so I had to file a claim. It is now 2 weeks and I am getting the runaround. First I was told that my husband was excluded as a driver on the policy (which he was not), my son with the same name was excluded. Then I was told that an APPRAISAL would be done and as of today no one has looked at my car. I have made numerous phone calls and emails to my adjuster and she is not returning calls or emails. I am having to pay out of pocket for a rental and have had to pay for a tow truck, all at my own expense right before Christmas. Beware! This company is a nightmare to deal with. I do not recommend them at all. I am at the point of hiring an attorney just for my own damn insurance company to pay my claim.
I got insurance through them however it said my credit card was declined. This was the 2nd attempt I had tried so I decided to stop trying and went with another broker. The General ended up charging my card and I called multiple times and a lady told me to email underwriting so I did. She said it took 1-2 working days. After 2 working days I called back and spoke with so many different people and they all said they'd get a manager to call me back AND NO ONE CALLED ME BACK. Finally had 1 manager KELVIN ** & he hung up on me!!!
The General, under Permanent General Companies, Inc., is BBB accredited and has been since 2005. The website gives the company an A+ rating. There are a total of 176 complaints against the company in the past three years, with 64 of those complaints closed in the past 12 months. Those numbers are a little high, but not alarming for a company of this size. There are no government actions or other major problems listed.

I have requested the SR22 filing online and in person for 3 months. They could not understand what happened and I can’t understand why I had to pay extra money to the live agent for the SR22 filing, they have half of my California DL# and the other half is half of my AZ DL #. I now lost my position in a school for truck driver training, lost my license-suspended for not having the filing, and right back where I started before we got The General in the first place. I’m calling and contacting the local news and every organization that will bring out the truth about them.. Its included in the new lawsuit!
I've dealt with them on two homeowner claims (for my grandmother) and three auto claims (a $68k uninsured motorist claim and a broken windshield claim on my cars and my mom's car after she hit a deer). These claims have spanned the last nine years and each one was handled with a high level of professionalism, but also with decency, kindness and compassion. They are truly an honest company that pays the claims they owe quickly and fairly. When I was injured by the uninsured motorist in 2010, the first thing my attorney said when he saw that I had A-O was "you have nothing to worry about, they will take care of you."
Allstate scored in the middle of the pack in J.D. Power’s 2018 Auto Insurance Study (mostly due to its higher premiums), but we’d still recommend it over The General. It dwarfs The General when it comes to discounts and supplemental coverage — meaning that going with The General’s cheaper sticker price doesn’t actually guarantee that you’ll pay less.

They say month to month. They cancel you if payment is not made on due date. But still take your money after due date. Was late on payment. Made payment over weekend. Had an accident over weekend and now my claim was denied. Because they didn't get it till Monday. But thank me for my payment that Saturday for payment. Bottom line - don't make any payments over the weekend with the General. RIP to the General. No car and lawsuit from other driver insurance company. Stressed. Don't know what to do. Merry no Christmas to my grandchildren.
